Dental Bridge
A dental bridge is a fixed prosthesis that fills an empty space by connecting artificial teeth like a bridge, using the natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth as supports. It is known as one of the methods for restoring the space left by a lost tooth.
In plain terms
Put simply, it is laying a “bridge” across the space where a tooth is missing. The teeth on either side of the gap serve as pillars, and connected artificial teeth are hung on them to fill in the missing part.
With a bridge, the teeth on both sides of the area where a tooth was lost are shaped into abutment teeth, and a connected restoration is bonded over them. Unlike an implant, it does not require surgery, and the treatment period is known to be comparatively short.
However, healthy teeth on either side have to be reduced, and it can be difficult to apply when many teeth are missing or when the supporting teeth are in poor condition. Comparison with implants and dentures is decided by considering the condition of the jawbone and the remaining teeth together.
